COUGH, COLD AND FLU

The common cold is an infection of your nose and throat. Flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses but they are caused by different viruses. We assess for common cold, Influenza, Whooping cough and Tuberculosis. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations. Symptoms of a cold include a blocked or runny nose, a sore throat and coughing.

DIABETES

Visit your GP as soon as possible if you experience the main symptoms of diabetes, which include: feeling very thirsty, peeing more frequently than usual, particularly at night, feeling very tired, weight loss and loss of muscle bulk, itching around the penis or vagina, or frequent episodes of thrush cuts or wounds that heal slowly and blurred vision.

FOOD POISONING

Eating contaminated food can cause foodborne illness or more commonly known as Food poisoning. bacteria, viruses and parasites or their toxins are the most common causes of illness. If food becomes contaminated at any point of processing or production, Infectious organisms or their toxins can affect the body resulting in nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Symptoms can appear within hours of eating contaminated food, food poisoning is often mild and resolves without treatment. But some people need to go to the hospital.

GLANDULAR CONDITIONS

Hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid occurs when your thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. If you notice any swelling of your testicles or scrotum, contact your doctor to make an appointment. Symptoms include a lump or enlargement in either testicle, a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum or a dull ache in the abdomen or groin. A sudden collection of fluid in the scrotum.

Genetic conditions are passed down from your parents, however, some gene changes occur randomly before you are born. The conditions inherit an altered (changed) gene from your parents that increases your risk of developing that particular condition. haemophilia and Familial hypercholesterolaemia can lead to extremely high cholesterol levels. Without treatment, FH can lead to heart disease at a very young age. If you already have a child with a genetic disorder, or you or your child's other parent has or is a carrier of a genetic condition, you can have your child tested with Paediatric genetic testing.
